SEPTEMBER GENERAL MEETING: ARE SLOTS
RIGHT FOR MARYLAND?

This is a special educational forum to
learn more about the pros and cons of slots in Maryland. Secretary of Labor,
Licensing and Regulation Tom Perez will speak in favor of slots and MD
Comptroller Peter Franchot has been invited to speak against. There will be
ample opportunity for the audience to ask questions. After the forum,
members of Progressive Cheverly will vote on a position regarding slots for
Maryland.
Bring your friends and neighbors to this
important forum on a critical issue facing our state. And please forward to
any other community or civic groups in our area.

Death Penalty Reform is a Progressive Cheverly priority this year. A
strong turnout is vital to help show the Commission and others that Maryland
citizens are interested, watching and engaged in the process. Even if
you can only attend part of the hearing, we encourage you to come. Anyone
who can attend any of the hearings or who wants to receive specific
notification of future opportunities should also send an e-mail to

If you know others you can gather to car
pool to the hearing, please do so, and let us know. Also, if you know others
who would attend or who are part of another group that might gather and send
a car load, please spread the word by forwarding this bulletin message, and

GREEN JOBS NOW DAY OF ACTION
Saturday, September 27th
Progressive Cheverly is joining with our neighbors including Radiant Valley
Civic Association; Community Forklift, Greenmodeling (two local, green
businesses); Edmonston Mayor Adam Ortiz; and Maryland Senator David
Harrington to say "We're READY for Green Jobs Now!
We will identify a family who is having difficulty paying their energy
bills, perform an energy audit, solicit donations for the necessary items,
and on September 27th, help the homeowner to increase their home's energy
efficiency by performing a home energy efficiency makeover. We will also
identify several individuals (possibly including the homeowner) who would
like to have some on the job training for this type of work, and then help
them develop and market their new skills. To participate, contact Lisa

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED!!!
Progressive Cheverly needs volunteers to help leaflet the entire Town of
Cheverly to spread the word about the Sept. 4th Slots Forum. Easy and great
exercise! We need 20 people to help deliver fliers to one area of Cheverly

ANNUAL SIDS CHARITY WALK

Have coffee, breakfast, and a fun walk with your neighbors (and dogs!) while
supporting a good cause at the annual SIDS Charity Walk, rain or shine! To
accommodate church schedules, start walking anytime between 8:15 am and
11:15 am. Clowns and a sing-along with Jim and Jack Stemmle will be part of
the festivities. Free registration and t-shirts, but tax-deductible
donations to the CJ Foundation for SIDS are greatly needed and appreciated.
