Our Mission: Based in Cheverly, Maryland, our mission is to promote economic fairness, social justice, basic human rights, a sustainable environment, a tolerant society and world peace through a more informed political dialogue and active participation in civil society and the democratic political process.
► October Meeting: Our next general meeting will be Thursday, October 2nd at 7:00 pm. Note the change of our program: Our guest will be Robert Creamer, well-known national political consultant, activist and author, "Listen to Your Mother. Stand Up Straight! How Progressives Can Win". We will also hold officer elections for the upcoming year Progressive Cheverly's regular monthly meeting is the first Thursday of month, 7:00 to 9:00 pm at the Judith Hoyer Early Childhood Learning Center, 2300 Belleview Avenue, Cheverly. All area residents are welcome to attend. ► September Meeting: Our previous general meeting was Thursday, September 4th. We held a special educational forum to learn more about the pros and cons of slots in Maryland. Secretary of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Tom Perez spoke in favor of slots and MD State Senator Paul Pinsky spoke against their approval. Progressive Cheverly endorses Senator Obama Members of Progressive Cheverly have voted to endorse Senator Barak Obama in the upcoming presidential race. Those who participated in the email voting process subsequent to discussion at our Membership Retreat on June 28 voted overwhelmingly in favor of the endorsement. In this time of challenge and peril for our country, we believe that Barack Obama represents a way forward for our country that is consistent with the principles of Progressive Cheverly.We urge all members and friends of Progressive Cheverly to support this candidacy in whatever way you can. To get involved with the local efforts, go to www.PrinceGeorgesforObama.com to join Prince George's for Obama. ► Green Jobs Now Day of Action: Progressive Cheverly, along with Radiant Valley Civic Association, Community Forklift and Greenmodeling (two local, green businesses), the Mayor of Edmonston, Adam Ortiz, State Senator David Harrington, the Chesapeake Climate Action Network, and Jwanzaa Youth Partnership participated in “READY for Green Jobs Now!” We identified a family who needed to decrease their energy bills and performed an energy audit, and helped the homeowner to increase their home's energy efficiency by doing a home energy efficiency makeover.
